Turtle Sighting & More Snorkeling

We brought the camera down to breakfast on Tuesday, but unfortunately the lady with the hair was not there. Sadly I think we missed her, since we have not seen her since. We did however have another sighting at breakfast of the strange animal Doug spotted out on the beach. It seems to be some kind of local weasel. We have since seen them all over the Island, and there appears to be a family of them living on our hotel property. This is the best picture I could catch of them while running past the pool at breakfast.

Tuesday we headed south down the Island to Captain Cook. We checked out the place where Captain Cook was killed by the Hawaiians and hoped to spot
some dolphins that frequent the area. No luck though.

We went for another great snorkel and then to a very cool historic park called Pu'uhonua O Honaunau, which was a place of refuge for those seeking aslyum from
breaking 'kapu' (a taboo law system). Here we also got to see a couple turtles which was really cool!

  1. I was intrigued by the critter you thought was a weasel, so I did a little research. Turns out it is an Indian mongoose, and they are an invasive species.
